A lancet is a small, sharp, sterile needle used to prick the skin (usually fingertip or alternate site) to obtain a drop of blood for glucose testing. FreeStyle Lancets are made of thin stainless steel (often 28 gauge) for a less painful experience. They are sterile, single‑use only, and intended for use with compatible FreeStyle lancing devices (but they may fit many standard lancing devices).
